The Andrew Heringer Band

Because we're so early in the stages of talking to the rights owners of the Sleepaway films, we're keeping a lid on posting any music from "Sleepaway Camp The Musical" right now, but we still have something we can share!

The music man behind "Sleepaway Camp The Musical", Andrew Heringer, heads up a group with the vague and mysterious name 'The Andrew Heringer Band'. Recently they released their latest album, "Under California Skies", completely free on the internet which you can download here: http://andrewheringer.bandcamp.com/

The style of "Under California Skies" is different from most of what the Sleepaway music is at this point, but it is a fantastic album and gives you a taste of Andrew Heringer's talent! Check it out!

A few Sleepaway reading pics

We came up with a few pictures taken by Tony Sheppard from the final performances of the Sleepaway Camp The Musical reading. They shows took place during Graham Sobelman's cabaret series "Graham-A-Rama" which Graham let us take over to get Sleepaway on its feet.

We'll post some more pictures in the future, but this gives you a great glimpse of the reading.
If anyone else out there has pictures from the reading we'd love to see them!

Well, hello! And welcome to the 'Sleepaway Camp The Musical' Blog!

We're hoping to share all our experiences about bringing our musical to the Big Time... or really at this point to the Any Time. One step at a time, right?

Just to give you out there in the internet some background, we have been working on this musical on and off for about 6 years at this point. Andrew Heringer, Rob Bean and myself (name-o' Fredrick Wolf Molitch, nice to meetcha!) all taught at a summer camp together. I would bring the movie 'Sleepaway Camp' in for a group of the staff to watch after the campers all went to sleep. Eventually talk of it being great material for a musical turned into us putting together a couple of songs which grew into the full show.

Through those years we all lived in different states up and down the West coast, so it was rare that the three of us could sit down in the same room and work on it. Finally after a number of little vacations together, we had a working script.

We waited a long time to get a reading of it together but just last week we had our first glimpse of it in a bare-bones concert reading of the script and music in Sacramento, CA. Graham Sobelman arranged the music for us and put together an amazing cast of singers for four preformances at the WM Geery Theatre. The book was added to and things were cut, plus we came out of the weekend with two new musical numbers! Yes, yes... I know you're impressed.

I was blown out of the water by how professional and legit this musical had become! The audience reaction was overwhelmingly positive and all of us on the creative side of things started seeing a much bigger scope for Sleepaway Camp The Musical. People were really flipping for this show!

The next step now is working with the rights holders for the Sleepaway Camp films, who we're in contact with and, from all I've heard, seem very excited about the project and keeping Sleepaway Camp alive in pop culture. We'll keep you updated with info and pics of the work so far! Thanks for the interest!
